save the date idea

This is our idea for save the dates. I had the idea and John did the artwork -- what a team! It will be a lot cleaner and some of the details will change (for example, it will say "pub" not "bar", because that seems classier). And it will open accordion fold.

Yay!

dress shopping continues (and life goes on otherwise)

Hello, ladies. It's been another steamy weekend in DC. And not in a sexy way either. Man oh man, it's hot out.

B and I had a lovely time shopping for dresses yesterday. We found one that might be the winner. This Friday before we go to the beach, Beth, Sara, my mom and I are going dress shopping. My mom is being really weird about this. And it is stressing me out! I really hope it goes better than I am expecting. My mom is a lovely lady, but she's not always the most positive.
What do you think??

John and I have started talking to lots of vendors too. It is a lot to keep track of! I'll be happy when we have a few more things nailed down.

In other news, J and I finally went on this Thursday night social bike ride that a local bike shop organizes. The lead rider has a boom box and plays awesome tunes and we wave and cheer to people we pass. It was really fun : )  We rode up to the Capitol at sunset and circled around it, kind of freaking out the Capitol police. It was a beautiful moment. We met a few people and are planning to go back and make them be our friends. We even went out today and bought bells for our bikes for the next ride. AND, they hand out popsicles at the end!

Dress Shopping

Last weekend Sara and I went dress shopping. I was terrified. I had visions of squeezing myself into tiny dresses in the most unflattering ways, dealing with pushy salespeople, and getting overwhelmed by crowds of cooing ladies and gawdy sparklies. But, it was actually quite fun! Thank you, Sara! We went to 2 stores and I found a dress that I liked enough to give a second thought to at both stores. I don't think I'll pick either of them though. Sara took pictures and looking at them outside of the store ambiance, they lost a little luster for me. Here is one of them. Simple, elegant and romantic. And cheap! I think I want something a bit more fun.
Close but no cigar

I think I'm probably going to stress out about picking a dress for a while. It's a hard decision! And I am so indecisive. The structure in the dresses helps my posture and makes them all feel sort of regal. Some of them look terrible, but a lot of them look nice. But what look do I want? How forgiving do I want it to be? Am I going to be able to dance? Will it photograph well? Is it ME?

I had dinner with a very practical engaged friend last night who just bought her dress. She had a typically cool, reasonable attitude about it: Just pick one that looks nice and doesn't cost too much. None of that pins-and-needles, make-you-feel-like-a-princess, you-were-meant-for-me, business. Save that for the honeymoon.

okay, last one for tonight

I like the bright colors and the plaid tie, but not the shiny fabric for the bridemaids dresses.

love the shoes

I like this too, but it's a little too sweet

Love this!

But don't worry, I won't make you wear chartreuse. It's happy and bold and fun and vintage-y.
